Thought I'd share some of my discoveries.

Should be useful for dive bugs.

I've managed to do both versions, but I'm still not sure how. I tested by pulling up at the wall at the end of the assault course (with the gate to the front of the manor to the left), rolling and hopping back once. A short running jump followed by Walk usually produced the distance on the left; but a couple of times I got the result on the right, which is shorter by about 5 inches.

It also just occurred to me that your video shows starting with a short running jump. I want to also try it with a normal running jump and a standing jump. It could really be handy to have 6 ways (and distances) of starting a dive bug from the same spot instead of only 3.

I'm sorry, I don't understand your instructions. To do a short running jump, you must hold Walk during the first step (either from the start, or before the first step finishes) and then release Walk so Lara begins running. If I again press Walk either before or after the jump, she lands at the long distance. How do you press the keys to get the short distance (that you call "holding walk")? Please describe what you do with the Walk, Jump and Forward keys.

Edit: Oops! I figured out that I got the short distance by making a mistake in the set-up. So I'm unsure if the image on the left is your short or long one.

Okay... You basically HOLD WALK + FORWARD so Lara starts by walking forward, then you RELEASE WALK (otherwise, she would just keep walking), but KEEP HOLDING FORWARD and also HOLD JUMP. That will activate the short running jump. As soon as you notice that the jump will occur, you would hold walk, but that's not what you want to do with the delayed swan dive. If you want a delayed swan dive, you will just PRESS WALK WHEN LARA'S TAKEN OFF. I hope it's clear now.

Thanks, that's just what I wanted. It SOUNDS clear, but I thought that's what I've been doing!?! Back to try some more.

I think I'll try your jump in the video, to see whether I'm doing the long or short version.

OK! I think I've got it now. It helped to enlarge your video to full-screen size. Then I could see that in the first clip, she seems to jump off her left foot. In the second, she seems to jump off the right. So I thought that it's JUMP you're delaying; of course, then you must delay Walk a little, since if you press Walk before Jump, she goes back to walking.

Anyway, I think experiments show that delayed jump is the key. Here's a video with 3 different delays: left foot, right foot and left foot again. Each jump goes farther because she jumps later.

When I tried these in Lara's Home, each step adds about 5 inches.

This is your discovery; I haven't seen this, because I usually hold Walk, hold Forward and Jump, release Walk and add it back just after she jumps. This gives the same results as the shortest version of our clips. This could give easier set-ups for a dive bug, as I'm sure you intended.

I don't think it's jump i'm delaying. You should do a normal short running jump, and then try to delay the swan dive animation as much as possible. Abuse Save/Load to see frame by frame.

I'm confused. What does the second half of your post mean? That you looked at my video, and you think I'm doing what you're doing?

I think I figured out what you mean by "abuse Save and Load". I made a save while she was in the running step, after you release Walk. As I expected when I held Forward and Jump during the Load, and pressed Walk just after she took off, I got a short dive (she lands several inches short of the wall, and flops over backward).

But it got real interesting if I held Forward during the Load, and added Jump then Walk. If I pressed Jump as quick as I could, she hit the floor but flopped sideways (I think this means she lands very close to the wall). A slightly later press of Jump hit the wall a couple of feet from the floor. A little more delay of Jump had her hit about 8 feet high. Edit: I pressed Jump quickly enough that she lands like in the first paragraph.

Again, I'm seeing a variety of outcomes from jumping with different delays. From the Save, I tried different delays of only of Walk a couple of dozen times, but she either dove short or didn't dive at all. So I'm a bit perplexed. Are we doing two different moves?
